Putting Up a Barn Owl Nestbox in South Gloucestershire
Back in February 2023 we put up a couple of Barn Owl and bird of prey nestboxes in a South Gloucestershire estate. The isolated Oak, overlooking rough grassland in the 5 acre field seemed an ideal spot.
I was advised that it can take a couple of years for your newly position nestbox to be approved of by any potential inhabitants. True to this, one of my colleagues who is looking after the formal grounds on the estate passed on the news that a pair of Barn Owls were seen coming and going just the other day. Thats roughly 18 months – so feeling pretty pleased!
There were no buildings we could use on the estate (which would have been the ideal choice for a nesting site) but this isolated tree was one of the better options taking into account the preferences detailed on the Barn Owl Trusts website.
